You see, if Jesus had performed miracles, today, your ability to witness the miracles, yourself, would still be the greatest piece of evidence that you could have. So, if you think about it, it matters, very little, about when Jesus came -- in terms of technological innovation. After all, videos can be faked, and photographs can be manipulated. I'm confident that, if Christ had come today, and a generation, that lived 2024 years from now, wanted evidence, the archived video wouldn't be a slam dunk.
Just as we have skeptics, today, there will be skeptics, in the future. Those skeptics would make the easy claim that the video is bogus, and that they don't believe that it's genuine. It'd be an understandable claim; by the way. So, not a lot would be gained if Christ performed miracles in one era, versus another.
I think what Eve is really saying is that, wouldn't it have been a lot more convenient if Jesus had performed miracles in her lifetime? The obvious answer to this statement is, "of course". However, the same sketpics, that lived during the time when Jesus performed miracles, could make the same claim. The only difference is that they were fortunate enough to have been alive to see them, first hand. There's nothing special about our era, other than the fact that we're living in it.
Before moving on, I, also, want to address another statement that Eve made, in the video. I mentioned that, in Jesus' day, there were no dissenting voices which claimed that he didn't perform miracles. Everyone, who was alive at that time, were in complete agreement that he had, in fact, peformed miracles.
Upon hearing this, Eve responded by saying that, "when Jesus was crucified, there were plenty of dissenting voices".
She is right that there were plenty of dissenting voices. She points out that, the outrage was based on them believing that he wasn't the son of God. They may have believed that he wasn't the son of God. However, even they, conceded that he performed miracles.
It's important to point out this difference, since my argument is that, all of the people, who lived in Jesus' day, agree that he performed miracles; including those who murdered him. It's this unanimous agreement, from the people who were alive to see what happened, that's very compelling evidence that it actually happened.
So, we weren't alive to witness the miracles of Christ, first hand. But, what DO we have? As I described, at the beginning of that call, we have a changed world. We live in a world were all of mankind has chosen to reference all of time to the birth of a man. History explains how this has happened, and when a person takes the time to systematically investigate all of the evidence with logic and reason, it isn't hard to prove that Jesus performed miracles. He performed miracles to prove that he is who he claimed to be -- the son of God. And, because he's the son of God, his words can be trusted; which allows us to accept that the Bible is true. And because the Bible is true, this allows us to accept that God exists.
Now I recognize that these claims are bold. However, it's not hard to come to these conclusions when a person is willing to take the valuable time to systematically ponder these arguments, in detail, with intellectual honesty. I won't claim that there are no obstacles. However, they can all be overcome. It starts with thorough logic, examination, and honesty, along with a conviction to hold true to such guiding priciples.
I recognize that this article is lengthy. Why Logic Fails is even longer. The online conversation, that I mentioned earlier, is also, in-depth. However, this is what it takes to adequately ponder these issues. My hope is that anyone reading this, will take the time to read all of these things.
Why Logic Fails is an online article, and can be read by going to WhyLogicFails.com. Not only is it ten pages long, it, also, has a few YouTube video links; which have been added at the end. They, too, can be helpful.
A writing, which provides a link to the online conversation with Rick Brown, an atheist, can also be found at the end of the Why Logic Fails article. However, I'll provide a more direct link to it, here.
Before I provide the link, I should point out that it was, originally, written for Christians. However, I've come to realize that it can be helpful to everyone; including all unbelievers.
Here's that link:
I have written all of these things in order to avoid redundancy, and having to make the same arguments, over and over again, in new conversations. For this reason, my hope is that people will visit these links, read the content, watch the videos, and ponder these issues on a systematically non-superficial level.
